Pioneers are Woodcraft folks 10 – 12 year olds. Last weekend, Pioneers from groups across the South West gathered together for a fun packed weekend.
Everyone had a chance to have a go at fire lighting, orienteering and a variety of team challenges. The egg retrieval was especially popular and amazingly all three teams managed to get their egg out intact.
Canoeing down the River Wye down to Monmouth was lovely, there’s so much to see on the river banks. Lots of ducks and swans and even a few kingfishers were spotted.
Up at Symonds Yat there were a few nerves before the caving, with support from their friends everyone had a go at squeezing through some of the smaller gaps, and turning off all the lights to experience the complete darkness underground.
Even the evenings were busy, a bat walk across the bridge, a campfire and some new songs to learn.
We’re already looking forward to the Pioneer Weekend 2020!
