Anyone who has been watching the news will have seen the devastating floods in Monmouth and along the River Wye. River levels have peaked higher than ever before, leaving many homes and businesses in the area completely flooded out.
For the site to, the waters reached areas never before flooded coming into both the warden’s cabin and inside the east toilets. Sadly even the lock up where off season kit is stored did not escape.
While the flood waters have now started to recede, there is still plenty of water on the camping pitches, and more rain forecast over the next few days.
Herf’s barn looks very empty at the moment, the picnic tables having gone for a swim. It will be a change to our usual team building challenges to extract it from the tree and get it back in place.
The bases for Camp Koodoo have not faired so well this time, we’ll certainly need to get some repair work done before the tents can go back up in April.
The iconic bridge, while still standing is currently closed, the ramps and handrails having taken significant damage from debris being washed downstream.
